exning tennis clubExning Tennis Club is one of only a few fully wheelchair accessible clubs in Suffolk.

The club has a number of different sized tennis wheelchairs that players may use, some of the regularly used ones are stored securely in the clubhouse. The wheelchairs are fully maintained by the wheelchair section members of the club.

There is dedicated court time for wheelchair players on Mondays from 2.00pm until 4.00pm with a regular group of players. Coaching is available Wednesday afternoons from 12.00 noon until 4.00 pm.

Access to the club grounds is though a security gate with a keypad panel which can be reached though the drivers car window. Members of the club are given the security code for access when they join. The club had a dedicated tarmac parking area for wheelchair users adjacent to the clubhouse. There is a paved patio area in front of the clubhouse and the courts. The court doorway is wide enough to allow access to wheelchair players using their playing chair.

Access to the clubhouse is via a paved ramp and flat balcony area wide enough to accommodate the cambered wheels of a tennis chair. The clubhouse has a WC/Shower room fully accessible to wheelchair users including handrails positioned for both wheelchair and ambulant players. The clubhouse also has a small kitchen area where hot and cold drinks can be prepared as well as a small fridge.

Wheelchair tennis coaching sessions

Wheelchair tennis coaching sessions may take place on the club’s courts at the following times:-

Mondays 2 Courts 1.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m.
Wednesdays 2 Courts 1.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m.
Saturdays 2 Courts 12.30 p.m. until 2.00 p.m.

Wheelchair tennis sessions take place regularly on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

Currently there are 9 wheelchair players playing regularly at the club. Wheelchair players are welcome to join in at all general weekend and club nights.
